What an incredible day exploring the world of gaming innovation! Massive shoutout to Philip Lafornara for organizing this eye-opening tour!
Our Pre-Apprenticeship students got an insider’s look at: Live device testing labs where Valve software like Steam comes to life, professional audio recording studios for game soundscapes, motion capture technology that transforms real actors into digital characters, and cutting-edge hashtag#VR development that’s shaping the future of gaming! Heartfelt thanks to Phil, and to Eddie Parker, Gina Rowles, Jon Pile, Phil Conway, and Sahil Dhanju for a great panel where they shared their career pathways into the gaming industry and much more.
Here’s what really blew us away – Valve’s commitment to their team goes beyond just great tech. We’re talking on-site gym, yoga studio, and even a barber shop! Not to mention an annual staff vacation in Hawaii – talk about serious dedication to work-life balance goals!
For our students, seeing this level of innovation and employee care was pure inspiration. This is what’s possible when you combine technical skills with creativity and vision.
CFA student Nicholas Curwood said, “Valve gave us an amazing opportunity to learn about different organizational styles when it comes to development. Panelists spoke about the passion and independence that is built on the mutual trust that everyone has when meeting project goals and deliverables. Each undertaking is more than just a task placed on their plate by a boss; it’s a project that they choose and actively continue to contribute to. Everyone has a stake in the software they create, and with everyone being an equal custodian of the product, it’s easy to see why they feel so passionate about their work.”
The gaming industry isn’t just about playing games – it’s about building the future of interactive experiences. Our students left energized about the possibilities ahead!
Thank you Valve for showing our future tech leaders what’s possible! Thank you Damien Cruz, Jonathan C., and Mandira Virmani for making this happen.
