Top 10 fun facts
- 145 students participated in The Third Annual Washington State Middle School Computer Science Competition
- 45% of the students were in 5th & 6th grade
- 29% of the students were girls\
- 52 {elementary, middle and junior high} schools from 16 different cities (incl. Tacoma) were represented
- A record 44 Projects were submitted for the Original Project Competition
- For the first time individual tests were machine graded
- 480 slices of pizza, 160 juice boxes and 105 bottles of water were consumed
- The sound level for the cheer “We love Computer Science” was 113.50 decibels.
- 29 volunteers, ranging from high schoolers (15+ years) to seniors (50+ year) helped manage on-site logistics; 2 security guards ensured everyone was safe
- 650+ hours were spent organizing and running this event

- 36% of the Individual Test participants were girls; 32 projects were submitted for the Original Project Competition
- 62% of the students were in 6th grade and below
- 362 slices of pizza, 148 juice boxes and 126 bottles of water were consumed
- The sound level for the cheer “We love Computer Science” was 114.73 decibels.
- 25 volunteers helped manage on-site logistics; 3 security guards ensured everyone was safe
- Each grader checked ~22 tests; every test was graded twice by different grader; totals were checked three times
- Median score for Individual Test was 59.5 / 90.0 (5th-6th graders) and 61 / 103 (7th-8th graders);
median score for Team Test was 21 / 50 for 7th-8th graders - 785+ man hours were spent organizing and running this event
